Last week, I wrote about Bali’s top 20 spas of 2013 – 2014 so this week I’m honing in on exclusive spa packages in Bali’s best luxury boutique resorts featured on Small Luxury Hotels (SLH). SLH does a great job of curating the most eclectic mixture of luxury boutique hotels around the world. In order to be included in this exclusive list, properties need to be charming, unique, and capture the imagination.
Where to find boutique resort spa package deals in Bali
The service standards at SLH hotels are unquestionable, and much more personal than what you’d find at even the very best luxury hotel chains. Plus, the package prices don’t differ greatly. After all, the experience is on par, or better, than what you’d get at a hotel chain because it’s unique and truly catered to your individual needs with less guests to mind.
It’s worth signing up for the SLH newsletter (I do!) to receive special offers and promotions. You don’t need to be a member to book through them, although membership will get you other perks like room upgrades, partner offers exclusive rates. Find out more about SLH here. Another excellent luxury and boutique hotel curator I recommend is Tablet Hotels; they have great deals on Bali’s top hotels including Alila Manggis, Uma by Como, Viceroy Bali and more.
The Bale Spa
The Bale invites masters in residence who specialise in holistic therapies to share their knowledge with guests through life changing seminars, workshops and personal advisory. The spa also offers wellness programs in yoga, meditation, aqua wellness and martial arts. Spa packages can be tailored to the individual, and combined with two meals a day specially created by the executive chef to boost your treatment program. Treatments include traditional Balinese massage, Zen ritual and Balinese rice body treatment – the variety of treatments is brief and focused on traditional Balinese rituals.
The 3D/2N spa package (USD$1,270) includes a luxury single pavilion with private pool, airport transfers, daily breakfast, crystal healing hot stone therapy (60 minutes), Balinese rice body treatment (120 minutes) and a candlelit dinner.
The Bale Spa, Jl. Raya Nusa Dua Selatan. P.O Box 76, Nusa Dua 80363. Tel: +62 361 775 111 or email:bliss@thebale.com.
Ketapang Estate
This stylish beachfront estate located in Tabanan has only seven private villas in a sprawling estate facing 300 meters of volcanic beach. Traditional spa treatments are offered in an outdoor floating spa, and you won’t have to worry about intrusive eyes. The vast estate is blissfully desolate. You get the option of having spa treatments in the floating spa pavilion, your villa or Terrazo Pasir Hitam; on the edge of the beach to the sound of the crashing waves.
Reviews for the property have been mixed; some guests commented the estate was too far away from the airport and weren’t impressed with the food and service, while others were blown away by the beauty of the retreat and nearby rural village. It really depends on what you’re looking for doesn’t it?
The two-night honeymoon package (USD$1,360) offered by SLH includes accommodation, airport transfers, continental breakfast, butler service, a candlelit dinner, excursion to Tanah Lot and a traditional Balinese couples massage.
Ketapang Estate, Banjar Dinas Kelecung Kelod, Desa Tegalmengkeb, Kec. Selemadeg Timur 82162, Kabupaten Tabanan. Tel: +62 878 6157 9008.
Spa Village Resort Tembok
Located in a charming village along Bali’s northeast coast, 2 ½ hours drive from the airport that passes beautiful scenery and rural towns. Fringed by black sand beaches and volcanic peaks, you’ll be transported away from the stress and noise of daily life and immersed into a deeply spiritual environment. Spa treatments are inspired by the herbal traditions of Bali, and can be received in the spa, or on the shore of a volcanic beach.
At the Spa Village Academy, guests can gain a deeper understanding of Balinese healing traditions. Great if you want to take the ancient knowledge of self healing home (and save on all those minor trips to the GP). The six night package includes meals and accommodation, a five day educational program, daily massage and complementary activities. Daily rates are around USD$350 depending on the time of year.
Spa Village Resort Tembok, Jalan Singaraja-Amlapura, No. 100 Desa Tembok, Tejakula Buleleng. Tel: +62 3623 2033 or +62 813 3852 6692.
Lembah Spa at Viceroy Bali
A family owned and operated spa resort in Ubud with only 25 private pool villas. The spa and resort are renown for breathtaking views of the Petanu River gorge, also known as “The Valley of Kings.” In keeping with that theme, the impeccable service at the spa is rated as being “fit for a king” in travel forums.
Treatments at this highly rated spa incorporate Western knowledge with traditional Balinese wellness techniques, and end with moments of quiet contemplation on the viewing deck. It’s just too good, we know you’ll be back for more. Packages include the one day refreshment package (USD$270) which includes a four hour tour and two hour spa package. Alternatively the spa & high tea package (USD$178) that wraps up a facial and massage with high tea is a perfect treat to follow a morning of shopping in Ubud.

L’Spa in L Hotel Seminyak

This hip and modern hotel is popular among young couples and honeymooners who want to be close to Bali’s bustling nightlife.
