There’s been a whole lot of partying on the island of the Gods of late, from premiere music festivals to world-class mixology, sun-tanning, prime time sunset hangs, ice bucket challenges (we’ll get to that) and absolute pure indulgence.
Dreamfields Festival kicked off August on the party shores of Bali, marking its first international addition and boasting a massive dance music line-up in ideal surrounds. The PTT family and Ismaya Live (the party people behind the famed Djakarta Warehouse Project), delivered the perfect concoction of internationally acclaimed acts with killer beats and world-class mixologists in a sublime tropical setting.
The inaugural year of Sunny Side Up Music and Cocktail Festival entertained local and international party goers with an eclectic and stellar line-up, paired with a superb range of cocktails, taking over Bali’s ultimate party pad, the Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak.
Let’s throwback to August in all our sun-soaked glory and remember the best of Sunny Side Up Fest…
The Sunny Side ‘warm’ up…
In the lead-up to the tropical festival, Potato Head Beach Club were out to impress and warm-up the surrounds showcasing an epic summer day party with an amazing DJ set by the Dewaele Bros, aka 2manydjs and heads of the band Soulwax. The duo brought down the house with their infectious party tunes and genre-mashing remixes, as the perfect ramp up to the main event.
Location, Location, Location…
What makes a music festival – the location, of course. The beach bar venue, famed for its legendary summer Potato Head parties, boasts an infinity pool overlooking the Indian ocean, and a beachfront bar with a 500 square metre lawn for revellers to party the day away or just laze about. With its unique and charming architecture, the iconic Potato Head is also world-renowned for its selection of delicious cocktails and yummy cuisine. The venue is peppered with palm trees and daybeds, just to make you feel extra certain you’re in a real slice of tropical festival heaven.

Fun and fancy summer cocktails…
The festival brought a large focus on high-end mixology and one-of-a-kind cocktails, featuring an immaculate rotating roster of award-winning bartenders. Finally, a festival bar serving drinks that aren’t out of a can (and watered down), absolutely no comparison to the measly offerings normally found at some music events. Which leads us to…
…The perfect collab
Sunny Side Up showcased a unique collaboration between the star-studded line-up and the finest mixologists (who were specifically flown in from around the globe) creating bespoke cocktails for party goers. The cocktails were made exclusively during the event. Not only did the music artists have fun designing their cocktail concoction, but guests at the festival were also served by the talent.

Let’s hear it for the headliners…
Potato Head parties with the best of them, and headlining at Sunny Side Up Festival was pop sensation and British sweetheart Ellie Goulding known for her piping vocals, clubby tracks and sing-a-long ballads, joined by the Harlem-born, ever so fashionable and feisty rap artist, Azealia Banks.
The playful electronic sounds of indie remix masters RAC (The Remix Artist Collective) along with the dreamy synths of Goldroom, made it a festival to remember. Banks, fresh on the music scene and best known as ‘the goddess of haunting electronic and r&b’ enraptured audiences with her magnetic live performance, with onlookers left chanting for more.
Meanwhile, LA’s adult actress and American Apparel model turned house producer Jessie Andrews spun her soulful sounds, making her epic music festival and Bali debut at Sunny Side Up.
Stepping up to the icy challenge…
The ice bucket challenge, which recently raised millions for charity, also played a part in Sunny Side Up, with none other than Ellie Goulding, the British songstress, taking part in the icy escapade. Festival-goers watched a bucket of freezing water being poured over her head at the show, all for a good cause and a perfect Kodak moment.
A summer party to remember…
Sunny Side Up was so much more than a typical music festival. With a banging warm-up to an eclectic line-up in various genres from pop, rap, dance and electronic, the perfect combination of cocktails in idyllic surrounds, it will undoubtedly go down as summer’s party to remember.
Catch you on the Sunny Side next year and stay tuned for more Potato head parties!
