Best dairy free coffee spots in Canggu

On a brief look at coffee upon arrival in Bali, you may be greeted by a ‘Bali coffee’ which may sound scrumptious and exotic but is, in fact, a cafetiere coffee which has not been filtered, so you might be taken aback by the coffee grit in your teeth.

On a second attempt to get your caffeine fix you may want to sample the Soy latte just like they have at your local hang. Wrong again, unfortunately, Balinese are partial to a sugar heap or two and that is exactly what you are going to get in your soya milk, which I can assure you is no organic type you get from whole foods.

At this point, you may feel like packing it in altogether, but never fear…Once you are more acquainted with the delights of Canggu you will find an array of vegan and health conscious hangs where you can find everything from a cashew nut latte to a coconut milk mocha…mmmm

Room 13 or The gallery at The Slow is dedicated to coffee lovers with their long communal table stationed next to the coffee machine. A social area to catch up and have a brew; serving Expat Coffee, a locally sourced coffee from the Kintamani region in Bali and Arche Gayo from Sumatra. Expat. believes the secret to a good coffee is in the education and training. Served with a choice of organic soya or a smooth coconut milk.

#2 CRATE

Hipster heaven is the only way to sum up Crate. If you are looking for no frills grunge cafe with yummy food and coffee, this is your place. It is on Batu Bolong only a short distance from the beach so you can hop out of the surf and go grab your morning pick me up. The walls are painted with graffiti and its another favourite for Instagram worthy shots!

#3 BETELNUT

Somewhat of an institution here in Canggu, it is not dissimilar to a tree house in the heart of Batu Bolong. Nestled among some funky shops, it is a perfect place to grab your almond latte and go for a stroll and check out the boutiques. Always busy due to the yummy food and coffee (their cake selection is pretty awesome too, what goes better with a coffee than a slice of cake?!?)

#4 SHADY SHACK

Betelnut’s sister restaurant and a new addition to Canggu’s vegetarian, dairy-free, sugar-free community. They also offer the Matcha latte which is a super duper healthy alternative to coffee with the same kick! (don’t be put off by its gooey green appearance, it tastes great) Here you will find a super breezy and cool place to hang. Nestled at the back of Batu Bolong away from the hustle and bustle. Great place to sit with a book or meet friends for a catch up! This is definitely the new cool spot to grab brunch!

#5 BOOTSTRAP COLD BREW

These people take their coffee pretty seriously! They use Revolver coffee which is super popular for no other reason that it tastes great! Their perfectly sized latte glasses are imported from Australia and they have their grind and foam down to a fine art (obsessed a little) Milk & Madu is a staple in the Berawa hood and a perfect place to take your laptop and catch up on whatever you have been procrastinating over!

#7 WATERCRESS

Sister of the infamous Milk and Madu, they adhere to the same standards if not higher, watercress is sort  of  a big sister version and a tad more sophisticated. They now open for dinner as well if you are looking for that beautifully handcrafted espresso after a sumptuous meal. One thing I always notice is they have great music taste. So what better to go along with your morning flat white than some funky tunes to bop along to (not too loud and funky for the morning mind you).

#8 AVOCADO

Avocado is another healthy power house as they are also owners of Motion fitness. Thier menu is designed to compliment the training perfectly. You will have no trouble finding every nut milk under the sun, along with matcha lattes and an array of tonics which are extremely refreshing! To go along with all these fancy beverages there is also a selection of seriously tasty treats. I can never refuse a piece of banana cake and this one is of the best I have ever tried! Avocado is just a little bit further down Batu Bolong away from the beach so easy to miss but best you don’t.

#9 EDEN CAFE

Eden is all about good quality home grown ingredients, they try and source locally whenever possible. Everything made at Eden is made with love…their super friendly staff are very welcoming. Their nut milk is homemade which always tastes better and you know there will be no nasties in there! And their soy milk is locally brewed and unsweetened which is hard to come by round these parts. Not far from avocado and a few shops to peruse. A nice little spot to visit.

#10 ORGANIC CAFE

Slightly pushed the boundaries of Canggu here but thought worth a mention! It is just down Petitenget so you a quick stop off on your way from Canggu to Seminyak. If you are looking for a super cool picture for Instagram you have come to the right place. Outside area named ‘Garden Gangsters’ is where everyone is posing with their fancy iced coffees and breakfast bowls made out of pineapples! The quality is in the name, you’re only gettin’ Organic here..Lots of hip and healthy alternatives!

#11 PELOTON SUPERSHOP

Of course, this vegan power house would make our number 1 on the list. They have EVERY milk other than that of an udder you can possibly imagine! Here you will find anyone from a blogger on their laptop to a funky young family feasting on all the vegan delights. The staff is extremely friendly, kinda feels like a home from home, especially for the vegan community of Canguu. They have some comfy seating but usually pretty busy due to their delicious coffee and treats. I personally like to mix the coconut and cashew milk with my flat white for a lighter taste!
