When I think of Lunch in Ubud, the first thing that springs to mind is vegan joints and hippy yoga hangs… However, if you’re looking for a tasty, more indulgent lunch alternative with a great atmosphere for perhaps a birthday lunch or just to catch up with some good friends. We have found just the place.
I recently visited COMO Uma Ubud. Of course, I have heard of the esteemed COMO Shambhala and I am a big fan! So upon hearing they had an Italian resto in Ubud, it definitely sparked my interest.Uma Cucina is set in the beautiful grounds of COMO Uma Ubud is a luxury resort consisting of 46 rooms, suites and villas, all surrounded by the paddy fields and greenery of this lush Indonesian island.
Uma Cucina has a relaxed atmosphere with dining table stretched out onto the terrace. There is a modern feel with a warm twist. It is very light and breezy but has a cozy kitchen style interior with ‘Cucina’ meaning kitchen in Italian, where everyone tends to gather! Excellent for those warm summer days, of which they are plentiful here in Bali. There are many reasons to visit Uma Cucina but what brought me here was the ANTIPASTO tasting menu. It is set out in an afternoon tea style, bite-sized Italian tapas delights arranged on an elegant tower. The menu includes; olive oil-poached tuna conserva, arancini filled with braised beef ragu, polenta chips (always good) bruschetta, as well as pasta and pizza – are served ‘sharing style’. Perfect way to sample the menu and come back for your favorites!Uma Cucina is avid about providing quality locally sourced produce where available here in Bali! I was particularly impressed with the locally made stracciatella! Who knew you could get a good stracciatella in the heart of Bali! They also source fresh Seasonal vegetables, using organic wherever possible, seafood and meats. Their homemade specials range from fresh homemade pastas and wood-fired breads to scrumptious gelatos.
Although everything on the antipasto menu was super tasty, I have to say I would travel to Ubud just for the one of braised beef ragu stuffed arancini balls.
Overall if you want to try a little bit of everything this sharing platter is the one, especially over a cheeky glass of bubbly or a cocktail and some good friends.
If you need any more excuses it is a snip at RP 299,000 for two people which is an absolute steal for such a tasty lunch. Antipasto menu is available every Monday to Saturday, 12pm to 4pm.
Uma Cucina is open daily for lunch from 12 noon to 4pm and for dinner from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
